In 1991 AMELS joined the multinational Damen Shipyards Group as exclusive yacht-building member. In 2000 AMELS began using the drydock facilities of Damen's Royal Schelde Shipyard, now renamed Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding, since 1875 builder of more than 400 specialized military and commercial craft. AMELS enjoys strong financing and the benefits of an international pool of research as well as access to "mil spec" technology.
