The 61.50-metre AMELS yacht CALYPSO (ex-SOLEMAR) was the first yacht delivered from AMELS’ upgraded Vlissingen yard in the Netherlands in 2003. In 2016 the fully custom-built Michael Leach design was sold,
and the new Owners opted to return to the original builder for a major refit. Visit the CALYPSO website for a closer look at the yacht.
CALYPSO departed the AMELS yard in January 2017 following her complete transformation during an 11-month AMELS Refit project. CALYPSO was fully upgraded with a long list of modifications, including full exterior paintwork with new colour accents.
With the Owner’s choice of interior designer Aileen Rodriguez, CALYPSO has a luxurious and charming interior that respects the integrity of the original build. The crew interiors have been fully refreshed and AMELS installed a new galley and new wheelhouse bridge equipment. The main engines, generators and mechanical systems were overhauled.
“The Owners visited the yard four times during the project including the renaming ceremony in January and they are incredibly happy with the yacht,” comments the Owners’ Refit Manager Maxx Ainsworth, who also captained the yacht from 2005 to 2008. “She looks fantastic – better now than when she was first built. The finish and quality of the paintwork are truly amazing. Her new interior is very inviting, very welcoming and the workmanship is beautiful. It’s been a major project, a lot of work, but we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience at AMELS. The project team at AMELS were very easy to deal with. Any issue we had was never a problem, we always found solutions together.”
